Overview

USA Triathlon is pleased to announce the second running of the Duathlon and Triathlon Boot Camp hosted by coaches Eric Schwartz and Luis Vargas. This year the camp will take place August 17-20, 2006 in the beautiful multi-sport mecca of Boulder Colorado. The camp will be open to all levels and is perfect for the first-timer or the experienced athlete. Both Eric and Luis have extensive coaching experience and are natives of Boulder, so rest assured you will be given top-notch training and racing advice using some of the best training routes in the country.
The Boot Camp will cover many aspects of training and racing. From Thursday to Sunday you will run, ride, and learn how to maximize your athletic ability.

Head Coaches

Eric Schwartz - Eric is a lifelong endurance athlete and the editor of Duathlon.com. In 2004 he won the PRO Duathlon National Championship and finished 8th overall at Ironman Wisconsin. He is a certified Joe Friel Ultrafit Associate coach, as well as a USAT Certified coach. He has been coaching duathletes of all levels for several years.

Luis Vargas – Luis is a USAT level II certified coach and coaches for MarkAllenOnline.com a coaching service he help found with Ironman Champion Mark Allen. He has been a multisport athlete since his teenage years when he swam and ran cross country during the same season. Luis raced as an age grouper for over 15 years becoming a member of Team USA at the Olympic distance. He is also a 5 time finisher of the Hawaii Ironman with a PR of 9:34. Luis moved to Boulder in 1990 and has been coaching for the past 4 years.


Invited Coaches and Speakers

Gordon Haller – Gordon who is now in his 50's is the original Ironman. He answered the call in 1978 when John Collins and company dreamed up Ironman Hawaii, wanting to determine who was the fitter athlete, the swimmer, cyclist or runner. Gordon won the first Hawaii Ironman and still competes today. He will speak about the evolution of the sport since its original days.

Mark Plaatjes – Mark is the 1993 Marathon Gold medal winner at the World Track and Field championships in Germany. A long time Boulder resident operates the Boulder Running Company which is Boulder’s premier running store. In addition Mark is also a licensed Physical Therapist and spends many hours a week keeping the Boulder running community healthy.

Other tentative Coaches and Speakers

Erin M. Carson MS, CSCS*D, PES – Erin is the Rally Sport General Manager and Fitness Director. Erin is a former Collegiate and professional Basketball player. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and has been designing customized fitness programs since 1989. Erin now calls running, skiing and strength training her primary activities and enjoys the complexities of structuring her training for optimal performance with limited time to work out.
