Online Triathlon Coaching by Mark Allen
Why triathlon coaching
When I first started training for triathlons in 1982, there was no such thing as
a triathlon coach. There were no resources available to help me integrate swimming,
cycling, and running into a workout program that made sense. I had to take the best
knowledge of the time in the three separate sports and piece it all together into
a program that was effective for triathlons. It was challenging to make it work.
I tried endless dead end ideas, ones that were sound for a single sport, but just
didn't bring results in triathlons. However, over time the correct bits of training
philosophy began showing their merit.
Why eGrip
What I discovered along the way was that findings in a lab didn't always translate
out on the trails and roads of the real world. And like you, I was more concerned
with race results than lab results. The only known was that if I raced well I knew
the training was working. eGrip allows you to benefit from my years of trial and
error testing. Starting today you can be guided by my experience with a personalized
training program that will help you achieve your triathlon goals and to keep improving
for years to come!
Is the program for me
eGrip is for triathletes of all levels of fitness and experience. The only requirement
for you to get started is to have the basic equipment necessary to swim, bike, and
run. This program is designed for all distances from a sprint triathlon all the
way up to an Ironman. You pick the goal. The program gets you ready. And unlike
other coaching systems, eGrip gives every single client the highest caliber schedule
possible. There is only one quality...simply the best!
Customization
Key information about your current fitness level, past racing history, and future
goals are analyzed to come up with a program that is uniquely yours. The flexibility
of this program allows you the option to select your key workouts on days that suit
your lifestyle. In addition, if modifications to the schedule are needed because
of either missed workouts or unforeseen obligations that necessitate you altering
your scheduled sessions, the program will adapt to keep you on track. The real world
does not always accommodate the perfect training schedule. eGrip does!
What are my options?
There are two types of programs available through eGrip: The Peak Performance schedule
and The Maintenance schedule.
The Peak Performance is for you if you have a goal race that will happen between
12-20 weeks from the starting date you pick for your program. If the goal race is
less than 12 weeks from your desired starting date, I do not feel there will be
enough time for you to fully benefit from the progression of my coaching. Alternatively,
if your goal race is more than 20 weeks from your desired starting date, I feel
the amount of time is too long and could result in you arriving at the start line
burned out.
The Maintenance schedule is for you if you have a goal race further out than 20
weeks from your desired program start date. This schedule is designed to keep you
fit until you enter the 20-week-to-race window. It is a training program that is
still based on your fitness and ultimate goal, but is modified to keep you fresh
and fit without pushing you more than I feel is reasonable for too long a period
of time.
What will I get
Once you sign up for eGrip, a training schedule will be designed that is specifically
customized for you.
The Maintenance Schedule: This program will be a guide for you to maintain fitness
without overdoing it. It is a 'loose' schedule in that if workouts are missed or
altered, no change will be necessary for future weeks. Included will be maintenance
workouts for swimming, cycling, and running as well as a maintenance program for
strength training. All workouts will be scaled back versions of what you will progress
into during The Racing Schedule. You have unlimited access to your training schedule
online.
The Peak Performance schedule: This program takes you through a buildup phase, then
on to speed work, and finally into a taper leading up to your key goal race. You
will be given a full cycle of weights to develop the overall body strength necessary
for peak race performance. A bonus of The Racing Schedule is the ability to input
your workout data if you miss or reduce the length of the scheduled workouts. Your
program can then be adjusted if necessary to keep you on track. You will have access
to information online about diet and race nutrition, the power of mindset, and lots
of tips that will help you take the utmost advantage of your training program. You
have unlimited access to your training schedule online.
How much does it cost?
Both programs are priced on a per week basis.
Peak Performance Program:
$29/week with an initial purchase of 6 weeks. The remaining weeks of the schedule may be purchased weekly.
Maintenance Program:
$19/week with an initial purchase of 3 weeks. The remaining weeks of the schedule
may be purchased weekly.
Both the Maintenance and Peak Performance Programs may be purchased in whole if
you wish to pay all at once. You will only be able to see the weeks on your schedule
that you have paid for. For example, if you have a 20-week Peak Performance Program
but have only paid for the minimum first 6 weeks, you will only be able to see those
weeks until more weeks have been purchased.
It is recommended to pay for the whole program in the beginning. By doing this you
can see the entire schedule from day one of your training. This has helped a lot
of athletes to allocate their physical and mental energy appropriately. Knowing
that the upcoming week may be easy but the next more challenging helps to pace your
effort over the course of the program better.
Also by knowing what is coming up in future weeks people are better able to plan
the scheduling of workouts within the realities of their personal lives.
